The Virtual(Box) Linux option lets you experience Linux without making any changes to your existing hard drive or operating system. Using a free application called VirtualBox, we create a fully functional Linux environment that runs inside your current system — like a computer within a computer. You can make it full screen and it looks and feels just like a real operating system. When you’re done, simply close the window and you’re back in Windows. Zero risk, full experience.

System Requirements

Because your computer will be running two operating systems at the same time, it needs enough resources to handle both comfortably. Before booking this service, please make sure your computer meets the following minimum requirements:

• RAM: At least 8GB (16GB recommended for a smooth experience)
• Free hard drive space: At least 50GB free (the more the better)
• Processor: A reasonably modern CPU from the last 5–7 years

Good to Know

A virtual machine is a great way to learn Linux and get comfortable before committing to a full installation. Many of our customers start here and later upgrade to the Basic Reinstall or Performance Boost once they’re ready to fully switch over. If you decide to make the jump later, we’ll credit your VirtualBox Linux service fee toward your next service.
